ModshackTTuned Induction System
Stage 2

The TTDA + MOFO is Stage
2 in the ModshackTTuned Induction System.
The addition of a bigger diameter MAF (Mass Air Flow) tube and appropriate
fueling enhancements through the use of a 4 bar FPR (Fuel Pressure
Regulator) results in some noticeable performance and driveability improvements.
Car will have a torquier bottom end, yet breath better up top due to the fuel timing changes and greater airflow. It is recommended the car be chippped but will work with stock ECU
(not stock airbox though). Currently available for the 225 TT as well as the 180TT and 1.8T VW models.

MOFO (Mass Oxygen Flow Optimizer) or (BAMM)
The idea behind the MoFo is to allow the car to breath better by increasing the MAF housing size. Increasing the inner diameter by only .15 of an inch increases the surface area by more than 11%.
Basic physics will tell you, that when you increase the diameter, the velocity of the air running through it is reduced (even though you're getting more air volume.)
Since the ECU takes it's signals for fueling partially from the MAF sensor, you end up with a lower signal being interpreted by the ECU. ECU sees a lower signal, assumes less air, and reduces fuel.
The reduction in signal from the MAF is directly proportional to the increased surface area of the new diameter MAF housing. This is where the problem arises, but it is correctable.
The ECU will adapt to condidtions by taking downstream readings from the O2 sensors, but only in a very small range.
|
Increasing the airflow by 11% and reducing the Fuel 11% can only be compensated
for for so long, then a lean code is thrown (Multiplicative adaptation
exceeds +20%.)
This is where the 4 bar comes in... It squirts more fuel, the O2
sensors adapt to this new condition, and the Adaptation maps come
into line somewhere around -4% (rich) which is about where you want
them (0% being no correction). An adjustable FPR will allow you
to get closer and is recommended for fine tuning, but the 4 bar
is fine for a simple, inexpensive drop in solution.
The greater fuel charge brings the adaption maps ito a range the
ECU can compensate for.
A/F ratios still go rich under heavy acceleration as that's controlled
by different maps in the ECU (as they should).
The need to balance the new MAF ID to the correct adaptation range
has been optimized through careful testing.
Both the 180 and 225 have thousands of test miles now with great
results.

Construction:
These start with a custom machined MAF sensor holder. After machining to the tube contours they are drilled, tapped, and adhesive channels are cut into them.
The 6061 aluminum tubes are lathe turned and bored for the application (180 or 225). Low turbulence Slots are milled for the MAF element along with glue adhesion channels.
Qyuick release Knurled thumscrews included.

Test fitting and final adhesive application with 3M-5200
It's taken a bunch of experimenting to optimize the ID's, especially for the 180 version.
Note: A 4 Bar Fuel Pressure Regulator or an adjustable with a range of at least 3-5 bar is absolutely necessary for proper operation!
The final versions are priced as follows: |
