VTDA with V-Stack intake The new VTDA is a compact, Velocity
Tuned intake, designed as an alternate to those wanting more intake
sound but still want to retain some temp controls. The standard configuration is
insulated though uninsulated can be specified depending on preference. No hoses
are necessary with this box though a fresh air feed will improve breathing and temps. Fits all 1.8T transverse engines as well as the 3.2
on TT's and R32's. (Sorry, No A4 or longitudinal fitment available)

| Construction:
The VTDA is a slightly different approach to intakes. Different
from Most on the market, but retains some similarities to the TTDA.
Construction is similar. Powdercoated or stainless over Microseam Phenolic
tubing. It is open ended, terminating in a 4"
Velocity Stack style inlet The tube is Smaller in diameter (6")
but longer (9.5").
The inlet is very close to the fender vent, so a majority of the
air will be pulled from that area. Since it is not sealed like the
TTDA, some engine compartment air will be pulled. Insulation
is retained, however, so there is still some heat control, both
reflective and absorptive. R14 rated Air Bubble/Foil lined for lightless.
97% efficient at bouncing off reflected heat. Front fresh air feeds can be set up Like
this For minimal heat ingestion. Check the temperature Data here: Dattalogging the VTDA
Due to the open ended design, the intake is louder than the TTDA
which approaches stock levels for quietness. Noise is never intrusive
though. It can best be described as "Breathy". Tubes are
Microseam Phenolic, and Powdercoated Galvanized steel or stainless
wrapped for a good appearance.

The V-stack inlet is
flush mounted and a cone
diverter is added to the K&N filter cap to speed air flow
into the filter box.
Like previous designs, this can be specified to fit a 180TT/VW,
225TT, or 3.2 TT/R32 with simple adapters. Installation is very
simple as no feed hoses are needed. Properly positioned, front feeds
could be set up to direct a flow of ambient air to the V-stack opening.
A bracket, now standard, makes installation a snap. Click on the
install notes above.

| Performance:
Based on initial testing on My car, the New VTDA flows better than
a TTDA which was no slouch to begin with. The V-Stack design obviously
helps in this regard. G/Sec tests show a nice advantage to this
design, particularly at higher RPM's. Comparative
flow graph can be seen here.
Heat ingestion has been measured and the VTDA should be superior
to open element filters and uninsulated brands. There is no intake "Swirling" to disrupt flow as in the BMC intake |
On Noise, the intake
is louder, but never obnoxious. Due to the shrouding of the filter
by the C/F tube, noise can be equated to roughly 1/4 the sound of
a loud open element style (P-Flow etc).
With the insulation eliminated it is only slightly louder so there is no real benefit to eliminating it. The Turbo
can be heard spooling as well as diverter valve air release. It
is more aggressive and "sportier" than the TTDA, particularly
at higher RPM's.
